1871 was an historic year for football.
In addition to Southall's formation, the Old Etonians, Reading, Uxbridge and Henley Town football clubs were formed - and the FA Cup kicked-off with four first round games.
Old Etonians won the FA Cup twice and finished as runners-up four times between 1875 and 1883, but they were not part of the first FA Cup tournament.
Maidenhead United and Marlow, who had formed in 1870, played each other as one of the first four FA Cup games to take place, with Maidenhead beating their local rivals 2-0. Crystal Palace, Hitchin, Barnes, Clapham Rivers, Upton Park and Civil Service complete the eight teams who contested the first four FA Cup games on November 11, 1871.
Southall's best performance in the FA Cup came in the 1935-36 season when they reached the Third Round, but they had already reached one FA final by then, meeting Clapton in the Amateur Cup final in 1925.
Old Etonians are the only club of the four new English teams founded in 1871 that have reached the final of the competition that kicked-off that year, with Reading reaching the semi-finals in 1927 and then again in 2015, and Uxbridge managing a Second Round appearance in the 1973-74 season.
