Get to know the Southall players!

Updated: Jan 20, 2021

IT'S ONE thing knowing how good a player is on the pitch, or their appearances and goals stats. It's something else to get to know them personally.

In the coming weeks and months, the Southall FC 150 Blog will be giving you the chance to find out a bit more about the players, manager, coaching staff - and even the club's chairman.

Keep an eye out here for some revealing interviews!

And, talking of revealing, scroll down to see what an opposition player did to try to get the ball from Alex Nolan in 2017 during his Egham days.

For now, here are a few facts, stats and some other stuff you might not know about some of the players and management team - including Kiemon Robinson's impressive goalscoring exploits for CMSFL team AFC Shirley, and Louis Dailey showing his versatility in front of the camera...

What would VAR make of this 'tackle' on Alex Nolan?

ALEX NOLAN

Defender Alex Nolan is apparently SO good that his opponents have to resort to 'underhand' tactics to stop him. Two days before Christmas Day in 2017, @bartonroversfc Tweeted this pic of Alex playing against them for Egham, adding the following note: Egham's Alex Nolan taking the Christmas dress code a tad too far with his seasonal pants! https://twitter.com/bartonroversfc/status/944597265406193664

BEN LONG

Midfielder Ben, who is the team's captain, is a personal trainer.

He has played for Hearts in Scotland, and in Grindavik and Keflavik (above) in Iceland.

KIEMON ROBINSON

If his track record in Sunday football is anything to go by then striker Kiemon Robinson could be one to watch when play resumes. According to a Tweet spotted by the Southall FC 150 Blog, Kiemon bagged no less than 60 goals in 27 games for CMSFL (Croydon Municipal Sunday Football League) side AFC Shirley. And, according to match reports on games he played for Egham, he has a pretty good track record for causing problems for opposition defences on Saturdays too. He made his Southall debut in September and has already notched his first couple of goals for the club.

Southall striker Aaron McLeish

AARON MCLEISH

Aaron was the hat-trick hero in September 2017 as Southall extended the club's record for most wins at the start of the season with a 7-1 win against Codicote. The winning run ended after that but Southall still went on to win the Spartan South Midlands League Division One championship. Aaron is currently one short of the 50 goals milestone for Southall.

CARL PEARCE

Carl has just passed one year since making his debut for Southall on January 11, 2020 and the defender is the leading appearance maker this season (18). He was selected for the FA XI side that played in the Falkland Islands in October 2018.

WARREN GOODHIND

Southall's Assistant Manager is a South African former professional footballer. He made more than 200 appearances as a defender in the Football League for four clubs. Goodhind started his playing career with Barnet and made more than 100 appearances for Cambridge United, before spells at Rochdale, Oxford United (loan), Ebbsfleet United, Harrow Borough, Eastleigh, Hemel and Thurrock.

Manager Max Howell and Goodhind have been in charge of Southall for more than 100 games.

LOUIS DAILEY

Defender Louis looks every bit a model professional on and off the pitch, including when it comes to playing for Southall and in his day job for Brentford FC Community Sports Trust.

And, if the following images of Louis are anything to go by, it seems clear that he has a focused and determined attitude when it comes to playing football.

Here's Louis in his Southall kit (above and below).

Then, skip to the next pic (that is visible on his LinkedIn profile) and it's clear

that Louis knows how to enjoy himself too.

Cue serious Louis...

ROURKE PICKFORD / LEWIS TODD

When is a clean sheet not a clean sheet?

That is a question that might have posed a nightmare issue on Halloween Saturday back on October 31 last year, as Southall took on Eastbourne away in an FA Vase first round tie.

But Rourke Pickford and Lewis Todd combined to ensure both were credited with a clean sheet.

Pickford was enjoying a good run of form in the Southall goal earlier in the season, until a bad knee injury ended his season.

Prior to Southall's south coast trip, he had kept three clean sheets in his 7 previous appearances this season and was on course to complete his fourth, and his second in as many games.

But he was injured late in the game and has subsequently been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Up steps 22-year-old keeper Lewis Todd for his debut and Eastbourne were unable to conjour up a consolation strike, thus securing a 3-0 win for Southall, Pickford's fourth clean sheet of the season, and a debut shutout for Todd.

The former QPR, Wycombe and Luton academy keeper followed up with starts for Southall in the next 3 games, before the season was suspended.
